Hello from the North Wales coast. I’ve recently picked up a copy of the Professional Photo magazine and read with interest the ‘Principles of Portraiture ‘ article. I’m more a landscape photographer but the article AND podcast are making me seriously look at improving my portrait taking. A big thanks for doing this.

I heard about this community a while ago but have only just started looking more seriously at it. I’m looking forward to learning more about portrait photography beyond just my own experimentation and seeing how others create their work so we can all share in the amazing world we have around us.

Hi Paul, I was working at home and found your podcast by accident, I was captured by your enthusiasm for portraiture I have recently dabbled in this area, mainly because my Mum met her great granddaughter for the first time a few months back. I wanted to capture the moment and create a photo book for both to remember the visit. I really enjoyed this experience and I am looking forward to learning how I can improve my composition, lighting, post processing etc, especially as I love both film and digital formats. I think the different film stocks and the… Read more »

Thank you so much for that, made my day. Hope you enjoy the site too – if there is anything you think we should be covering, let me know! Take care, cheers, P.

Hello to everyone and wish you well in this difficult time, I Joined at last, I have Paul’s book and read his article each month in professional photo, Looking forward to being a member of this group.
Hi Paul, I haven’t scoured through everything yet, so this might be here somewhere. What would be a huge help to me is finding a quicker way to get my images from out of camera raw to viewing ready jpegs in double quick time. It currently takes me about 30 to 40 minutes a session and as I do usually 4 shoots a day, that’s 2 to 2 1/2 hours spent doing this. I’ve gradually developed a pretty convoluted way of doing things but it does give me nice results, I just want to get there quicker. Typically I shoot… Read more »
HI David. I’ll see what I can come up with. There’s no easy way to design your workflow – all workflows are sub-optimal in the end but I’ll try and figure a video that walks through ours here. The thing about the workflow is there are different time frames to optimise: short term (the initial edit / production); medium term (the lifetime of the job, the ordering of products etc.) and the long term (portfolio / competition images from the job.). A workflow has to be designed for all the bits you need with the highest quality for the lowest… Read more »

Hey everyone. Happy to be part of the group. Listened to the podcasts and thought I would continue my learning here. It’s inspiring to hear how you made the leap into photography Paul, especially as you were already in a professional career. I think there are many of us who are on the fence looking for a way in.
Thank you! Glad the podcast is useful. If the house next door would finish up with the lawn-mowing I might get to record one today in these interesting times! Also keep an eye out in the next few months as we’re looking to build a whole series of resources for photographers trying to work out how to transition to ‘pro’ as it can be really daunting (it certainly was when I did it!) In the meantime make the most of the site and shout if there is anything we can help with.
