Mastering Headshot Photography – Professional Portraits Anywhere
Professional portraits, anywhere you find yourself.
Headshot photography has never been more in demand. From actors and authors to CEOs, entrepreneurs and personal brands, everyone now needs a strong professional portrait.
But real-world headshot sessions rarely happen in perfect studio conditions. Sometimes you’re in a boardroom. Sometimes a corridor. Sometimes beside a window with five minutes before the next meeting.
The key skill is not just knowing how to light a face.
It’s knowing how to create great portraits wherever you find yourself.
In this hands-on masterclass we’ll explore how to photograph professional headshots across a variety of environments around the studio, working much as you would during a real client shoot. Rather than staying in one controlled setup, we’ll move through different spaces, using studio lighting, window light and simple portable lighting to create a range of polished, professional portraits.
Throughout the day you’ll learn how to work efficiently, guide your subject confidently and produce flattering, engaging headshots quickly – skills that are essential whether you’re photographing an actor, a corporate client or someone building their personal brand.
Working with models and in a small group, you’ll have plenty of time to shoot, experiment and refine your approach while receiving guidance and feedback along the way.
During the workshop we’ll explore
• How to create professional headshots in a variety of environments
• Lighting faces quickly and reliably
• Making the most of window light and available light
• Blending natural light with off-camera flash
• Portable lighting setups for location work
• Studio lighting patterns that are flattering and efficient
• Choosing the right equipment for headshot photography
• Posing and guiding your subject naturally and confidently
• Reading your client and adapting your direction
You’ll leave the workshop with new confidence, fresh ideas and the ability to create strong, professional headshots wherever the job takes you.
The number of attendees is strictly limited to 5 for this workshop, ensuring everyone plenty of hands-on time with the lighting setups and the models. This is a hands-on day rather than a desk-based masterclass.
You’ll leave the workshop with new confidence, fresh ideas and the ability to create strong, professional headshots wherever the job takes you.
Every attendee will also be invited to our private Mastering Portrait Photography Facebook Group, where we share technical notes, behind-the-scenes insights, lighting diagrams and early booking opportunities for future workshops.

Lovely Quotes From Previous Studio Workshops
As an amateur, I was a bit nervous about attending the workshop but that was soon dispelled. Paul and Sarah give you a warm welcome and you instantly feel at ease. A cup of coffee and a brief intro and then you’re into it. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask as Paul will talk you through it. A big thank you to our models for the day. They just helped add to what was a great day and lots of fun. I would not hesitate to recommend a Paul Wilkinson workshop to any photographers looking to learn from someone who will leave you inspired and I will be looking to attend further workshops in the future. To quote one of the other reviews left here ‘Not only do you come out with heaps more knowledge, the whole atmosphere of the day and the feel of their business leaves you truly inspired!’ and I don’t think I can say it better.
There is absolutely no substitute for being “in the room where it happened”. Paul has the unique ability to read the room and assess the individual needs of six disparate photographers and make sure each feels that the workshop was directed at him/her. Anyone can give you the “numbers” of a set-up, but Paul shares the “why” and makes you feel you can do it too.
One of the industry’s true masters. A real treat to be taught by someone of Paul’s reputation.
From the moment I was greeted by Sarah in the morning to the end of the course it was a great learning experience, I would recommend, you won’t be disappointed.
An excellent training day that cemented for me how to use lighting. I got quite a few of those ‘Ahhhhh’ moments where everything just clicked. I now feel confident with my skills and ability to produce the shots I was looking to achieve. Any questions asked we answered and no holds barred. Huge thank you to Paul and Sarah for a FABULOUSLY fun day. I will definitely be back for another workshop.
