Let’s face it; we’re a dog-loving nation. As a professional photographer, dog photography represents a huge opportunity for creating beautiful images and increasing sales. In this masterclass, we will use the studio and outdoor locations to create stunning portraits of man’s best friend and their owners.
Though I have always been known as a portrait photographer, I have been working as a dog photographer with The Hearing Dogs UK for the past decade, creating the brand images for The Hearing Dogs UK charity, as well as numerous dearly-loved family pets!

In this Masterclass, we’ll learn how dogs behave, how to stay in control of the shoot (and the dog’s owner!) and how to create stunning images of man’s best friend together with their owner.
- How to light a dog’s face and body (and the differences to their human owners!)
- How to coax dogs into doing what you want
- How to set up your camera for the studio
- How to set up your camera in the field
- Capturing (and freezing) motion
- Keeping dogs relaxed (and spotting stress signals)
- How to include the dog’s owner to capture their special bond
The number of attendees is strictly limited to 5 for this workshop, ensuring has everyone plenty of hands-on time with the studio, the lights and the models. This is a hands-on day rather than a desk-based masterclass.

An instructive, fun and relaxed day with great models (human and canine) and friendly like-minded photographers. Paul and Sarah are the perfect hosts. Paul is knowledgeable, approachable and passionate about his subject, whilst Sarah, as well as clearly being a vital element in the success of the business, kept us all supplied with refreshments during the day and a first-class lunch. Number of delegates was ideal at 6, giving everyone time to work individually. Thank you for a brilliant day.
Paul & Sarah were very helpful & knowledgeable. The course was a very friendly & fun & easy going from Paul, the models and the other delegates. I would throughly recommend anyone who wants to photograph dogs well to attend.
We are all familiar with the adage ‘those that can, do; those that cannot, teach.’ Paul is proof that those phrases are not mutually exclusive. He does both with aplomb. I found Paul so engaging we could have managed without the dogs!
Meeting Paul and his team was everything I hoped it would be, a fun and entertaining day with expert knowledge and tuition. I ended the day a better photographer and enjoyed the whole experience.
It was very informative and great to see how Paul works. It was nice to have a chat with other people wanting to learn dog photography or currently photographing dogs. Paul made sure that all questions were answered and everyone got to have a go which was great as I learn through hands on experience.
Being a non-professional, without experience of portraiture or animal photography, I was quite nervous about joining the workshop in case I was out of my depth. But all questions were welcomed, and the information was pitched appropriate to all levels there, so I felt comfortable to ask about studio lighting, flash etc. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and now know how to set up at home to photograph our own pooches.
