The image has six different areas:
- The colour wheel is the most obvious, and this shows the entire range of hues, in 10 degree steps, with 100% saturation and 100% brightness
- Ring ‘A’ shows the brightness of each of those hues when overlaid with a desaturate layer in Photoshop. Notice how the brightness of every single segment is the same when treated like this
- Ring ‘B’ shows the brightness of each of those hues when overlaid with a Channel Mixer layer in Photoshop with Red=30%, Green=60%, Blue=10%.
- Ring ‘C’ shows the brightness of each of those hues when overlaid with a Channel Mixer layer in Photoshop with Red=21%, Green=71%, Blue=8%.
- A graduation from Black to White in 24 distinct steps
- A graduation from Black to White in 256 (i.e. unlimited in 8-bit images) steps
