The Mastering Portrait Photography website has been going strong since 2014, when we first published our book, “Mastering Portrait Photography“, and since then we have quietly been adding content, producing videos, creating lighting diagrams and generally having a lovely time with you, our crowd of portrait photographers. What started as a companion to the book gradually took on a life of its own, growing into something far bigger and more useful than we ever originally imagined.
Well, it’s almost exactly a decade later, and we have grown older, wiser and more enthusiastic than ever about portrait photography. The website has just gone through a VAST update, with new tagging, classifications, bookmarks, mockups, backgrounds, actions and content. If you’ve visited before and things look a little different, that’s why. We’ve spent a serious amount of time rethinking how everything is organised so that you can actually find what you’re looking for quickly, rather than digging through pages of content hoping to stumble across it. Basically, everything we can think of when it comes to making our lives as portrait photographers just that little bit better!
Up until now, we haven’t really needed a blog, but as of October 2024, now is the time. We simply have too much to talk about and not enough room to say it anywhere else. There are techniques we want to share, behind-the-scenes stories from the studio, thoughts on the industry, kit we’ve been using and plenty more besides. Rather than trying to squeeze all of that into a video description or a caption, the blog gives us the space to actually do the subject justice.
We’ll use the blog to tell you what we’ve been up to, and you can see the Latest Updates page to keep an eye on new articles, videos and mockups as they land. It’s worth bookmarking that page if you want to stay in the loop.
Enjoy!
PS. This is me and our studio dog, Rufus. If you’ve ever listened to the podcast, you’ll know he’s quite a character – the sort of dog who has an opinion on everything and absolutely no interest in keeping it to himself. Sarah took this photo, and she is annoyingly talented at everything she turns her hand to, which is both wonderful and, frankly, a little humbling at times. There is also a whole team here behind the scenes who will all get properly introduced at some point in the future. Until then, it’s me an’ the dog!
